Summer Time

Let me take a few steps back and tell you about the summer time. We spent a lot of time talking with people and seeing our family. It was a real blessing.

I took the GRE this summer. It was a pretty terrible test seeing as I haven't looked at most of that information since about 8 years ago. I haven't thought of the Pythagorean theorem since I was in high school, and even then it seemed useless. Now, as an English teacher, it actually IS useless.  I had to relearn all of that goodie and then use it on that exam. I also struggled big time with the vocabulary since I have lost most of it from using a second language instead of my first. Who would have thought that you needed to remember words like cadge, obsequious, hortatory and conflate?

It was really good to see these little guys. This is my sister and nephews, and I got to hang out with them at the zoo. It was a great time as they trounced around and quickly tuckered themselves out from the extreme excitement of being at the zoo.

We also had Hubs' 10 year reunion. It was really interesting to see all of these people that I didn't know at all. It was actually a great time to get to know all of these people that he used to spend his time with. We also went through a ton of his old yearbooks and got to just laugh at all of the sweet pics from his childhood.  I also had no idea that Hubs was such a sports fanatic until we came to his unbelievable baseball card collection.  Things you just don't think about coming from a house full of girls is baseball cards and how important they were to guys from our generation. Anyway, I learned that Hubs was the ultimate fanatic, and that he had boxes filled with them. We went through all sorts of them, and I actually really enjoyed looking through to see if there were any famous ones that would be worth something. Most of them were not, but we did find some seriously interesting ones like these ones he still had from Desert Storm. Who would have thought that they made baseball cards for wars. I mean seriously! What in the world?

I also learned that Hubs used to be in a club called the Kandy Klub. Apparently, these guys used their mom's Sam's club card to buy tons of candy, and then they would sell it at like 10 times the price at school.  Such enterprising men.  Here is their updated photo.

We took a short fishing trip with my Dad, and Hubs caught this one. I think it was his first bass! Woot! Welcome to the family.

My Ma and sis are pretty sweet ladies as well. They took in another sister for the summer, so it was fun to have her around the house, too. I don't have any pics with her, though, so this one with just Ma and sis will have to do.

That is definitely the short version. It was good stuff.
