Oh my! I was so not ready for the snow that fell on Drew's birthday last Saturday! WHAT? SNOW???? NO WAY!!! We had a good time for the hubs birthday and mostly stayed around inside because it was WAY too cold to go out. We had his favorite lunch and dinner places and that was about it on the getting out of the house for all of us. I didn't even get a picture of the birthday man. Fail! I will find one soon and post it as a post-birthday picture.
am not ready for that light fluffy gorgeous balls of whiteness. I am also not ready to retreat indoors for all hours of the day with a two year old in 800 square feet. Nevertheless, it is here.
So, this week, we've done some serious experimenting with different things to do inside. We have found some books called (小手工 literally: small handmade meaning little handicrafts). They've been pretty amazing. We had one book that was all dinosaurs and one book that was all different cars. It has certainly been informational for me as I have gotten to learn silly things like Triceratops (三角龙 literally: 3 horned dragon)in Chinese. By the way, I love the Chinese language. How could it get any more clear than that? They've been a lot of fun for both of us as I fold and glue them and Eva sets them up in order and then usually throws them around the room and finally puts them on the shelf and covers them up with a washcloth. I'm thinking that she is putting them to sleep by putting a tiny blanket over them. :)
We also have started making play dough! I'm stoked about this! I never knew you could make play dough and I haven't seen it around here. So, I nabbed this recipe from "To The Moon and Back" because it had a recipe for play dough without using cream of tartar. I don't think I can find that here in China, so this recipe uses vinegar instead.

1 cup flour
1/4 cup salt
1 cup water
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
3 teaspoons white vinegar
food coloring
(I also added some glitter to the dough)
We definitely have been having a good time with all of this business! I hope you enjoy the pictures of indoor fun. Any ideas for indoor activities with a wiggly bodied kiddo would be greatly appreciated!

Mix all the ingredients together in a saucepan and stir constantly over medium heat until…it all clumps together. Take it out and let it cool. Knead it and then enjoy it!
I may also need to get an apron for this kid as I just wrapped her in a sheet. Good thing she doesn't know that there is another way to protect the clothes yet. Here's to a long wonderful winter indoors!
